Australian schools do a remarkable job of supporting their staff. Collaborative planning, instructional coaching, whole-school professional learning days - school-based PD has never been more intentional or more valued.
But every teacher is also on their own journey.
A classroom management course that transforms a struggling first-year teacher means little to a veteran with twenty years in front of students. A deep dive into project-based learning might be exactly what one teacher needs, while their colleague down the hall is working through their accreditation requirements or exploring a completely different area of the curriculum. The right professional development is personal - and what's right depends entirely on where you are right now.
That's the problem James David set out to solve.
"Schools provide great PD. But there's also a whole world of learning out there that speaks to individual teachers at the individual stage they're at. The challenge is finding it."
TeacherPD Australia launched in Term 1 2026 as Australia's first dedicated professional development directory for teachers - free to access, searchable by subject area, education level, state, and format. One place for every teacher's next step, whatever that looks like for them.
Finding the right fit
The breadth of what's available might surprise you. Glen Pearsall's Guide to Classroom Management with Virtual AI Students, available through Teacher Training Australia, gives teachers a practical framework for navigating one of the most pressing challenges in contemporary classrooms. ClassCover Learn offers a range of courses designed to fit around a teacher's schedule - short, focused, and flexible enough to complete without carving out a full professional learning day. For those looking to connect with the broader profession in person, the National Education Summit brings together teachers and leaders from across the country for two days of keynotes, workshops, and genuine professional conversation. And for those drawn to the bigger questions about where education is headed, the Future of Education Summit from BOP offers a space to think beyond the day-to-day.
These sit alongside hundreds of other listings - workshops, webinars, conferences, and accredited courses - organised by subject area, level, and state, so teachers can filter down to what's actually relevant to them.
Why it matters
Access to the right PD has always been uneven. Teachers in well-resourced metropolitan schools have typically had more options within reach than their colleagues in regional and rural communities. An online, searchable directory doesn't fix everything, but it closes the gap - putting the same range of options in front of every teacher, regardless of where they work.
"Every Australian teacher, at any point in their career, should be able to find their next step in under five minutes."
The platform is free for teachers. Always.
