Semaphore's agreement with Wonde will take Australian company's software worldwide.

Semaphore and Wonde today announced a new integration partnership which will see all Semaphore’s software products available for use by Wonde subscribers across the world. The arrangement forms part of the “Open SIS” movement that advocates for unhindered, secure, interoperability between Edtech systems.

Semaphore is the owner of Accelerus Reporting, Student Maps Data Analytics and Xuno SIS, each of which have now integrated with Wonde.

“It really does make sense for tech organisations to work with one another to offer schools the broadest choice and I’m delighted to work with the enabling technology that Wonde provides for schools” says Dr Kiki Tanousis, CEO of Semaphore. “It doesn’t matter whether schools end up using 80% of the products in one system and 20% of those in another, the thing is, they are getting their version of perfect.

“The days of IT systems hogtying schools through entanglement, are dying,” Tanousis adds, “for schools, being able to get their data out easily, allows them to improve upon any incumbent system, without necessarily removing it in its entirety.” A process which Tanousis compares to heart-lung surgery and suggests is usually best avoided.

Wonde Managing Director Peter Carpenter is keen to expand connectivity between Edtech systems.

“We have over 27,000 schools across the world that have voted in favour of connecting via Wonde, so we’re clearly meeting an important need surrounding interoperability and data security. We integrate with Student Information Systems or jurisdiction data repositories and enable schools to take full control of which of their specialist 3rd party software providers can consume and update data. We currently have some 500+ different products available to our schools, spread across a mix of SIS and specialist 3rd party providers.

“The interesting thing with Semaphore is that they provide both specialist products for use with incumbent SISs as well as a modular SIS which provides data to other systems via Wonde.”

Both Carpenter and Tanousis agree that allowing schools to link seamlessly between products is the best way for educators to optimise their IT use, making the job of educating students that little bit easier for all.
