Virtual school produces excellent results, many students win places at the best universities in the world.

A New Zealand school has been named a Top 3 finalist for the $250,000 World’s Best School Prizes 2023.

Crimson Global Academy is a 100% virtual school founded in Auckland, New Zealand, with students joining live classes from 55 countries around the world.

Crimson Global Academy has designed a comprehensive programme that not only mitigates the shortcomings of virtual learning but also nurtures healthy and thriving student communities. Through a combination of expert educators, cutting-edge technology, and personalised instruction, Crimson Global Academy is on the cutting edge of online education.

The school’s team of highly experienced educators and school operators has helped overcome the limitations of virtual education. Crimson offers weekly live sessions, both group and individual meetings, a virtual badging system to promote engagement, and a community platform that empowers students to take on leadership opportunities. Faculty-led student clubs, in-person meetups, and comprehensive career and university guidance provide a holistic and enriching educational experience.

Crimson Global Academy’s delivers a mix of group and one-on-one instruction. This flexibility enables students to schedule their studies for maximum productivity, access appropriately challenging courses across subjects without grade-level limitations, and benefit from the expertise of top-tier teachers.

The school has seen exceptional achievements through its innovative approach. Consistently surpassing global averages, 40% of students achieve a score of 5 on their AP exams, compared to the global average of 12%. Additionally, 45% of students achieve a perfect 9/9 on their IGCSE exams with many gaining acceptance into prestigious universities worldwide, including Columbia, Harvard, Oxford, and Cambridge.

The five World’s Best School Prizes - for Community Collaboration, Environmental Action, Innovation, Overcoming Adversity, and Supporting Healthy Lives - celebrate schools everywhere.

Founded last year by T4 Education in collaboration with Accenture, American Express, Yayasan Hasanah, and the Lemann Foundation, the winners of the five Prizes will be chosen by an expert Judging Academy based on rigorous criteria. T4 Education launched a new Community Choice Award this year - open to the 15 schools that make up the Top 3 finalists across all five World’s Best School Prizes - and given to the one school that inspires the most support in a Public Vote.

The winner of the Community Choice Award will receive membership to T4 Education’s new Best School to Work programme, an independent, evidence-based mechanism to certify schools for their culture and help them transform their working environment to attract and retain the best teachers.

Crimson Global Academy is only three years old and has also won a 3rd-place ranking for Online High School in America by Niche.com.

If Crimson Global Academy wins the World's Best School Prize for Innovation, it will use the prize to expand their Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) programming. Being a fully virtual institution, it understands the importance of students prioritising their mindset, motivation, and overall mental wellbeing every day, regardless of their social needs. By strengthening their SEL initiatives, it aims to provide enhanced support and resources, enabling students to thrive emotionally, academically, and personally in the virtual learning environment.

The winner of each of the five World’s Best School Prizes will be announced in November. The winner of each Prize will be chosen based on rigorous criteria by a Judging Academy comprising distinguished leaders across the globe including academics, educators, NGOs, social entrepreneurs, government, civil society, and the private sector.

A prize of US$250,000 will be equally shared among the winners of the five Prizes, with each receiving an award of US$50,000. All the Top 3 finalists will share their best practices through School Transformation Toolkits and events on the T4 Communities app.
