BioBlitz your local area and help scientists.

If you really want to get among scientific research and help scientists to understand the ecology in your local area here is the chance.

The Citizen B&B BioBlitz wants students to spend one lunch time or equivalent in their school grounds taking observations (photos, videos or audio recordings) of plants, insects, birds and other pollinators. It runs from 1st-22nd September, 2023.

Teachers will upload observations to iNaturalist, a global citizen science website and mobile app connected to CSIRO's Atlas of Living Australia.

By participating students learn valuable citizen science tips and help Australia’s biodiversity. And if you sign up, you can attend a free workshop on citizen science, the B&B BioBlitz, and STEM and curriculum links.

The B&B BioBlitz is co-ordinated by PlantingSeeds and its regenerative and educational B&B Highway - Bed & Breakfasts for Birds, Bees and Biodiversity. Participating schools will receive teacher support, and STEM and curriculum links and activities.

Requirements to participate include joining the B&B BioBlitz project on iNaturalist beforehand (covered in workshops).

The B&B BioBlitz is supported by the NSW Department of Education, Environment Victoria, the Eastern Alliance for Sustainable Learning, the Queensland Office of the Chief Scientist, the CSIRO’s Atlas of Living Australia, Australian Citizen Science Association, Environmental and Zoo Education Centres, and Optus.

Teacher workshop dates: July 26th, August 9th & 23rd
