The SA Education Department has produced a ‘snapshot’ guide for parents and caregivers to summarise the seven general capabilities students learn throughout their schooling - which have been designed specifically to focus on the jobs of the future.

The seven general capabilities taught throughout the Australian curriculum are:

  • Literacy
  • Numeracy
  • Information and Communication Technology
  • Critical and Creative Thinking
  • Personal and Social Capability
  • Ethical Understanding
  • Intercultural Understanding

The capabilities describe the knowledge, skills, behaviours and disposition which are necessary for children and young people to be successful in learning and life. These are recognised around the world as essential for development.

Each information sheet contains advice for parents and caregivers on how they can help their children develop these capabilities which will help equip them for future work opportunities.

Extensive consultation was undertaken with parents from metropolitan and regional schools during the drafting stage of the information sheets, with feedback received used to create the final versions available here.
